About Us
The Free Market Road Show 2015
The Austrian Economics Center (AEC), in cooperation with over 60 leading think-tanks and universities across Europe and the Caucasus, and in association with international partners such as the Liberty Fund, Global Philanthropic Trust, European Students for Liberty, Ruefa and the F.A. v. Hayek Institut, are proud to present the 8th Annual Free Market Road Show, which tours from April 13th to May 27th through 35 capitals in Europe and Caucasus – from Scandinavia to Turkey, from Spain to the Ukraine.
The 2015 Free Market Road Show will bring together leading business people, outstanding scholars and students, opinion leaders, policy experts, elected officials, diplomats and other interested parties from across Europe to discuss the current Euro-zone crisis, explore what kind of Europe people want, examine the ‘conundrum’ in which the European Union finds itself in and discuss ways to turn the current crisis into an opportunity. In the Balkan countries we will additionally focus on corruption and how to best fight it, whereas in the Caucasus regions we will cover the current regional tensions, focus on how economic freedom, the rule of law and protection of property rights provides options for improvements.
History of the Free Market Road Show
Started in 2008, the Free Market Road Show brings together renowned economists, leading politicians and prominent business leaders every year to discuss current economic problems and possible solutions at a variety of venues across Europe and the Caucuses. It also provides unparalleled networking opportunities for participants and those within the European free market movement, with exclusive events such as cocktail receptions and dinners with top opinion leaders and decision makers.
Since initiation of the Free Market Road Show hundreds of speakers from around the world have been involved, who reached thousands of participants. In 2012, the Free Market Road Show® exceeded all previous attendance records. Next year, it promises to be even bigger and better — with many new cities, more speakers and a growing list of participants.
My special thanks go to our sponsors and partners. Without their active support, our team’s endeavors would be without success.

How to create sustainable growth in Europe and beyond is of paramount importance as most European countries are facing risks of prolonged stagnation and deflation. After having been able to overcome the worst economic crisis in decades, policy-makers and other stakeholders at both the European and the national level continue to be focused on securing robust economic growth. Our companies are meanwhile also confronted with high levels of volatility.
In addition to effective macroeconomic policy-making, the further promotion of innovative entrepreneurship has to be put at the centre of our efforts. Especially in the face of tough international competition, our entrepreneurs rely on the government to create a business-friendly environment generating jobs and therefore securing higher living standards. As a consequence, helping our companies to fulfil their potential in the global marketplace is one of the main priorities of the Austrian Foreign Ministry.
It is in this light that, besides other economic activities such as the negotiations of bilateral investment agreements, we focus our work on providing services to Austrian businesses at home and abroad in cooperation with the Austrian Chamber of Commerce. With our unparalleled network of over 100 diplomatic missions abroad, the Foreign Ministry can offer a significant spectrum of valuable assistance to Austrian companies, ranging from political support to networking and to the provision of important information about a foreign country. Furthermore, we organise numerous events together with the Austrian business community such as “Business meets Diplomacy” in order to establish regular contacts between our ambassadors and company representatives.
Efforts have to be coordinated among a wide range of stakeholders in order to successfully deal with the challenges outlined above. This is exactly what the 2015 Free Market Road Show is trying to facilitate and therefore I would like to wish you a lot of success.
